Overview

GISonLine participated in the implementation of one of the largest projects in Poland Energy & Utilities markets carried out by Taruon Dystrybucja SA and concerning the process of passporting and inventorying of the power grid.  The primary focus of the project was to collect and establish an inventory of utility network assets and their attributes that contain precise information about the technical parameters of individual utility network objects, their relationship with other objects, and their geographical location. Project challenges included:

  • Diversity of data ranging from the 1950’s to modern as-built documentation
  • Multiple coordinates systems associated with source data
  • High network density with large amount of source data features
  • Requires specialized knowledge of the energy industry

The Impact:

Multiple sources of data and information were collected and processed and entered into the geospatial system to form a single source of knowledge regarding the utility assets. The sources included: paper documentation, topographic maps, land surveys, and data collected in the field during the inventory and assessment process.

The Outcome:

Using the obtained source data and information, GISonline successfully conducted an inventory of Low and Medium Voltage networks covering a total length of over 5,000 kilometers. All datasets were processed, formatted, and entered into the digital database that supports the geospatial system for the visualization and management of utility network assets.
