Overview

Keeping utility assets up-to-date within a geospatial system while constant changes and modernization of the utility network occurs is a challenge.  The goal of this project was to formalize business processes and streamline workflows associated with data maintenance of Tauron Distribution Integrated Network Asset Management System.

The Impact

The project require excellent knowledge of the energy distribution industry and the structure of assets within electrical power grids.  During the process of GISonLine assessing the utilities data, gaps in information about utility devices were identified and corrected.  Secure remote access was established that allowed GISonLine geospatial technicians and data managers to connect directly to Tauron’s geospatial system to implement the data management workflows.

The Outcome

GISonLine successfully integrated a set of processes and workflows designed to support the input and management of utility network data directly within Tauron’s geospatial system. In addition, GISonLine identified, documented, and corrected gaps in the utilities infrastructure data to support a complete and holistic view of the enterprise network.

Introduction of the formalized processes and workflows included:

  • Standardizing the data entry process during stages of development
  • Performing verification and completeness checks of the asset data
  • Validation of the technical documentation accuracy and completeness
